Bus Route Updates – Bus #4, #10, & #14

Dear Students and Parents:

Currently route changes for routes 4, 10 and 14 have been posted on the website. Routes 4 & 10 are currently being run with the changes. Route 14 changes take effect on Monday, Sept. 28.

There still is a county-wide bus driver shortage which affects all of the bus contractors not just Advanced. Fortunately we have all of our drivers, but the shortage affects substitute drivers for us.

We are still in the process of making small changes in many of the routes and may issue additional route changes in the near future. We do appreciate your patience. Currently, we are about a half of the way into the email requests for bus changes so it will take some time to make the corrections. We are not ignoring the requests but, unfortunately, it just takes time.

If you are at a stop and are wondering if the bus is late, please call Advanced Transportation at 998-6726 and they should be able to tell you the status of the bus. We do not have any of that information at the Charter office. Remember, their dispatchers receive a large number of calls in the morning and if you can’t get through on the phone, keep trying.

We also appreciate the emails and telephone calls informing us of suggestions. We can be reached at jdesmond@charterschool.org.
Please do not call because the telephone calls will be handled after the emails.

Summer Reading 2016

The Charter School of Wilmington’s English Department is requiring that all students read one book prior to the start of the 2016-2017 school year.  Here is our Summer Reading list!

Please note that AP students (both AP English Language and AP English Literature) will have additional books to read in preparation for the rigors of an AP course. These additional readings will be communicated directly from AP teacher to student.

Hopefully the selections will be both enjoying and interesting. We encourage parents and the rest of the CSW faculty to explore these books as well.

While we are requiring only one book for summer reading, we do hope that students take advantage of summer break to delve into reading by exploring the classics and discovering freshly published works. If you would like some guidance, please contact your English teacher, the English chair or Mrs. Mary Tise, the school librarian.

Please have the book in hand for the first day of class.  In addition, the English department recommends annotating the book to promote active reading.

Many colleges and universities allow students who have received a score of 3 or above to waive certain introductory courses and to apply those credits toward their degrees.

The Charter School of Wilmington offers the following AP Classes: Calculus (AB & BC), Statistics, Biology, Chemistry, Physics C, Environmental Science, Computer Science A, English Literature, English Language, Latin, Spanish Language, French Language, Psychology, U.S. History, U.S. Government and Economics.

Last May, 192 CSW students were named AP Scholars in the following categories:

63  AP Scholars - Granted to students who receive scores of 3 or higher on three or more AP Exams

41  AP Scholars with HonorGranted to students who receive an average score of at least 3.25 on all AP Exams taken, and scores of 3 or higher on four or more of these exams

88  AP Scholars with DistinctionGranted to students who receive an average score of at least 3.5 on all AP Exams taken, and scores of 3 or higher on five or more of these exams
