Summer Reading 2016

The Charter School of Wilmington’s English Department is requiring that all students read one book prior to the start of the 2016-2017 school year.  Here is our Summer Reading list!

Please note that AP students (both AP English Language and AP English Literature) will have additional books to read in preparation for the rigors of an AP course. These additional readings will be communicated directly from AP teacher to student.

Hopefully the selections will be both enjoying and interesting. We encourage parents and the rest of the CSW faculty to explore these books as well.

While we are requiring only one book for summer reading, we do hope that students take advantage of summer break to delve into reading by exploring the classics and discovering freshly published works. If you would like some guidance, please contact your English teacher, the English chair or Mrs. Mary Tise, the school librarian.

Please have the book in hand for the first day of class.  In addition, the English department recommends annotating the book to promote active reading.

The Class of 2016 continued the tradition of presenting the CSW faculty a Senior Class Gift at Commencement on June 4.  This year’s award was a two-part gift.  AaronRey Ebreo performed at Charter’s 20th Anniversary Concert on May 14. He generously offered to make the performance a part of  the class gift, so $1,100 in ticket sales was donated towards the Senior Gift.

Happy New Year!

We hope that everyone had a relaxing break and we just wanted to start 2018 by reminding our CSW families that we are here to serve you.  Our administration, faculty and staff are expected to adhere to a mindful culture at all times.  The pillars of our mindful culture can be found in the acronym PEACE:

Professional: CSW faculty are team players that are always prepared, diplomatic, timely, respectful, that refrain from gossiping and contributing to the rumor mill.

Productive: CSW faculty set goals and stay focused to complete them.  We believe and model for our students the practice of working smarter and not harder.

Present:  CSW faculty are always attentive to the immediate and live in the moment. We let the past go and allow for the future to work itself out.

Easily Accessible: CSW faculty are welcoming and have an open-door policy.  Not only do we make ourselves available, but we respond quickly to emails and phone calls and are visible members of the CSW community.

Amenable: CSW faculty are receptive, responsive, adaptable, flexible, and open-minded to a variety of challenges and situations.

Compassionate:  CSW faculty members are empathetic, non-judgmental, accepting, caring, helpful, sensitive, charitable, and understanding.

Egos checked at the door:  CSW faculty embody humility, awareness and make student-centered decisions.

If at any time this is not your or your student’s experience, please do not hesitate to reach out to a member of the CSW Administration.  We depend on your feedback to help keep The Charter School of Wilmington one of the top high schools in the nation.  We look forward to a healthy and happy new year for all of our students.

Best Wishes,

CSW Administration
